Ron teaches lessons in Royal Oak at the Masters of Music Teaching Studio and at Wayne State University. His students have performed and recorded with Bob Seger, Herbie Hancock, Marcus Miller, Wynton Marsalis, Joe Henderson, Pat Metheny, Yo Yo Ma, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Roy Hargrove Big Band, Clark Terry, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Jimmy Heath, Christian McBride, Michael Brecker, Peter Erskine, Dave Liebman, George Russell, Terence Blanchard, Patti Austin, Jon Faddis, Bob James, Jeff Lorber, Stefan Harris, Gerald Wilson, Boston Chamber Ensemble, Kenny G, Martin Short, Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, Michigan Opera Theatre, Toledo Jazz Orchestra and more. They have gone on to careers as composers, arrangers, band leaders, contractors, studio musicians, and music producers in addition to their many successful performing careers.
Ron's students choosing to pursue music as a career have gone to college on scholarship, most on full tuition scholarships. Colleges they have attended include New England Conservatory, U.S.C., University of Michigan, Jackson State, Michigan State and Wayne State Universities among others.
Current students are performing in the D.S.O. Civic Orchestras, Wind Ensembles and Jazz Bands, and Jazz Week at Wayne State. University students perform professionally while they earn their degrees. Many professional brass players take lessons for both growth and error correction.
Ron's students have released recordings as leaders of their own groups, and several have gone on to teach at schools including University of Michigan, Michigan State University, Morehouse College, Oakland University, Wayne State University, Claflin University, Albion College, Henry Ford Community College and University of Toledo. Several of his students have won Detroit Music Awards for Outstanding Soloists, Instrumentalists, and Recording categories.
